Sean Burkeholder has attended University at University of Wisconsin. He majored in Biochemistry and was part of the premed society and was in the process of doing medicine as he wanted to help people. This led him to volunteering within the emergency room at the local hospital for two years. He realised that doctors help one person at a time where a drug, vaccine or new test could help more people. Thus Sean’s dream was sidetracked and he realised that he could affect and help more people by doing novel biomedical research. After his bachelor’s he worked for a Inovatech drug company for two years where he help develop four key cancer drugs that could treat everything from breast cancer to non-hodgekin’s lymphoma. He also worked co-operatively at the university to push basic research and teach students about science. In addition, and to maintain a human side outside the lab he volunteered to teach 4-6 year old children how to ski on a local mountain.
Next, Sean continued in biomedical research for four years to study amyloid related diseases at a PhD level at in Stockholm. Not only did he create knowledge of research in this area he trained people with care to push the boundaries of science. In between his PhD and post-doc he worked to develop and sell medical devices. Sean has continued along the road to help society by creating novel technologies to diagnose diseases as a post-doc at the university where he studies proteins and medical devices. He has started to develop a device to diagnose cancer and diabetes before the person ever develops systems. Sean has volunteered and networked to help other entrepreneurs achieve their success in a Biomedical Entrepreneurial club. He believes he can help people in a large way one scientific discovery at a time.
