Free Hospitality And Tourism Essay Sample
The Niagara College Winery seemed to be the ideal choice for hosting the Taste of Niagara Reception for a number of reasons. Most importantly, it was large enough to accommodate the number of required culinary booths along with the stage, microphone, podium, silent auction table and the anticipated one hundred guests.
The Winery is decidedly more elegant than the alternative of the cafeteria/gymnasium, and will therefore require less decoration and additional preparation beforehand, which is important because the event is scheduled for a time when school is still in session. The cafeteria/gym will be needed for their traditional purposes during the days leading up to the event, so there would be little time left to decorate and transform the space had we chosen that option.
The Benchmark Restaurant was an acceptable alternative in terms of space and décor, but the Winery was ultimately preferred because the event will be featuring exclusively Niagara College Wine and Beer, so it seemed to be a nice complement; a way to tie it all together. Additionally, some guests might enjoy the opportunity to explore the Winery and see where their beverages have been made.
The vendor booths have been set up along the wall to allow the free flow of foot traffic and mingling in the open center of the room. The podium was set unobtrusively in one corner, adjacent to the stage. The silent auction table is on the other side, to allow for easy access, also be out of the way and yet be clearly visible from the doorway to attract interest from the potential bidders.
