Florida Gulf Coast University guiding principle is to assist its students become engaged and informed citizens. This has been achieved by implementing various programs that basically focus on psycho-social development of the students. One of these programs involves provision of a comprehensive library service accessible to all the students. Florida Gulf Coast University acknowledges the pertinence of knowledge acquisition through reading of books, articles, journals and other academic and non-academic published materials. The Library services also offer a collection of academic videos that are meant to inform students on certain pertinent issues in their academic progress and social lives.
On the other hand, FGCU offers annually library workshops where students are provided with a platform to showcase their ideas, network and consult. The university believes that such platforms are crucial for personal development and enhances inter-personal skills among its students, an aspect considered pertinent for national cohesion.

The outreach programs are therefore considered a source of knowledge of the real national socio-economic status of the country. The University also enhances connection between its students and the surrounding community by engaging them in philanthropic activities i.e. through its alumni relations, former students are provided with a chance to support community development programs and projects. Moreover, the University offers lectures on leaderships where community leaders are invited as motivational speakers as well as on how to become good leaders. These programs are not only pertinent for knowledge acquisition, but also as lessons for the students regarding their roles in the society. The University also offers off campus training and education among its students. Its administration considers this strategy crucial for widening student’s knowledge base not only on academic matters, but also on non-academic issues i.e. politics and economic facets.
Florida Gulf Coast University also focuses on talent development. This is achieved through provision of co-curricular activities where students development their talents and skills. The University offers a variety of Athletic programs for instance: Men’s and Women’s basketball; men’s and women’s baseball, swimming and diving and Tennis. This is a crucial strategy for developing talents that will ensure that students are engaged in national athletics activities. Moreover, through arts and performances, the FGCU allows its students to learn national historical issues exhibited in art galleries, browser school music and theatre clubs. In relation to performances, students are provided with an opportunity to enhance and develop their acting skills, thus facilitating development of their careers.
There is also Students’ Connections Affairs Newsletter published and provided to students on a regular basis. These newsletters are meant to inform students of issues associated with campus life and how they can overcome certain campus challenges. Some of the campus survival tactics can also be applied in the real society as well as in real working environments.
