Angeline Brooks retired as a high school principal at Misticfalls high school. After her retirement, she was not ready to sit down doing nothing, so she made the next step. She made a career change decision and became a director of St. John Michelson group of companies. According to Schlossberg, changing from one occupation to another will need much time to be able to familiarize. Her social and work network changed from dealing with parents and children to dealing with managers and supervisors.
Angeline was an adventurer retiree according to the Schlossberg’s outline. She retired as full-time school principal and became a director of St. John Michelson group of companies. Her optimal work environment included working fewer hours. It also included moving away from more of operations and active participation in the implementation of strategic management and decision-making. Different people have various things to engage in after their retirement. Some may choose to change completely to another job, others may take this time as the opportune moment to stay with their families since during work time there is no enough time to spend with family members. . There is no right way to retiree and according to Angeline, her idea of retirement involved continuing to work. According to Dittmann (2004), retirement is just but a path where someone leaves current work engagements and moves to something else.
In conclusion, some people find it very difficult to accept retirement while others appreciate it and embrace it. Proper planning, which should begin in the early days makes the retirement process easier. Angeline had prepared for her retirement by gaining skills that made her qualify for the director position. Even after retiring everyone would still wish to have that life that he or she lived while working. Hence, people have plans for the future life. She knew that she loved working and scheduled for the adjustment.
