Facilitation is one of the critical way of developing leadership skills. Being a group facilitator comes with various experiences and lessons. The group norms experienced during the facilitation created a platform of unity. Performance norms are some of the norms experienced during the facilitation. These norms determined how each group member participates in group work. The roles were well defined, but it could be difficult for one to comprehend the roles of each member of the group. Before my experience, I had negative views towards group work. These are because I did not assert any importance to group work. After my experience, my views on group work became positive. I began to view group work as an avenue to learn from other and also present an opportunity for other to learn from me.
There are various issues that I learned about myself through the group process. I learned that I had the potential to stay with my partners in the entire group process. In fact, I realized that I could participate without speaking more. In addition, I learned that my interaction skills and co-operation was what mattered most in group work. I noticed interpersonal relating styles among the group members, which entailed direct involvements with others in the group. In fact, the direct involvement enhanced dialog among the group members. Being part of direct involvement in various occasions is a role that I played. Being part of direct involvement, and dialog made me feel like part of the group. It developed a sense of belonging and strengthened my involvement with the group.
The group was much productive. These are because most of the participants claimed that they had understood various issues related to the topic. The group could have worked more efficiently through equal sharing of responsibilities. The facilitation process needs to be shared equally in order to increase the quality of output. Being a group leader increased my self-confidence and made me more assured of my leadership potentials. In my future career plans, being a leader created an avenue to face many challenges regardless of the situation. The aspect of participating actively and respecting the thoughts of others is of great help to my professional career and personal growth.
