Families are a constant source of strength and support (Christensen, 2015). The parents’ love places great service the overall well-being of the children. It is the primary duty of mothers and fathers to teach their children proper values and educate them (Christensen, 2015). Inculcating moral and religious values are highly critical. More importantly, children’s dignity should be protected.
My family plays a very important influence on the person that I am now. I was born to a fairly comfortable life. My father provides all the necessities of the family. My mother was an excellent supporter as well, taking care of all our needs. And just like other families, we also have our shares of happiness and problems, victories and defeats. There are two kinds of stressors that take part in our daily undertakings – the horizontal and the vertical stressors. McGoldrick et al. (2011) defines horizontal stressors as those types of stressors that involve predictable and unpredictable events. Examples of horizontal stressors are divorce, life-threatening illness, developmental crises and a lot more. Vertical stressors pertain to rules, or emotional norms conveyed across generations (McGoldrick, 2011). These include labels, attitudes, taboos, myths, legacies, and family secrets.
There were times in the past when horizontal and vertical stressors intersected. My father was stricken with an illness that was not widely recognized upon diagnosis. Doctors did not see any medical issues or strange deviations from my father’s physiological examination results. My grandmother instructed as to bring my father to a faith healer. , my family only trusts scientific healing through medicines and the help of hospital apparatus. But since no healing transpired after weeks in the hospital, the family decided to reconsider my grandmother’s suggestions. True enough, my father’s illness suddenly disappeared.
