Performance data can be identified in a series of steps and after that utilized to evaluate employee performance. This data may relate to production quality, customer satisfaction rates, employee motivation, sales volumes and profit margins (Breschen, et al., 2001). After the consideration, one then determines the data collection method that is appropriate. After collecting the data, suggestions for measuring R&D activities are made. Notably, performance and productivity appear on the opposite sides of the same coin (Bellin, 1981). An improved organizational performance directly relates to improved employee performance. Hence, managers can assess their employee performance by relating it to the overall organizational performance.
There are a number of ways in which the data can be used to assist in analyzing and improving performance. First, the data can be used for benchmarking (Waddell, et al., 2001). This is where the data is used as a point of reference when handling organizational operations. Secondly, this data can be used in reengineering, where the organization can alter some of its operations that are not producing positive output (Breschen, et al., 2001). Through the performance data, the organization can determine areas that require improvement or total change. Hence, it enables the managers to come up with appropriate interventions to counter negative performance outcomes. In general, performance data is useful in driving improvement in an organization (Bellin, 1981). While improvement might be related to the productivity of an organization, it also involves individual employee output. Employee output is improved upon by motivational factors (Waddell, et al., 2001). Thus, managers can also use performance data to establish ways of motivating the employees.
