This memo serves to identify the problem in the given case and offer recommendations for Edward Vedder. Edward Vedder manages a company with several full-time and part-time workers. However, the recent budget crisis has affected the performance of the company. Cost cutting had to be implemented and two junior managers were laid off for the company to save more money. There is also a danger of having more employees laid off to save the company from further losses. Other than the reduced funding and tax benefits, Edward is currently confronted with a decision whether to push through with the release of the new version of RBI Baseball considering the fact that the game had reduced its popularity years ago and had been surpass by a lot of competitors in the market. If this release of a newer version be pushed through, this will mean serious financial commitment.
Leadership is essential to every organization. As a leader, Edward must be the primary mover of change, helping everyone in the company surpasses the challenge of the budget crisis. Moreover, Edward must emphasize to the entire employees the need to adapt new trends within the organization. Leaders are expected to be competent enough in bringing the organization to greater heights despite adversaries. Hence, effective decision-making is a must.
Decision-making entails an alignment to the company’s vision and purpose. Edward, as a leader, must set new goals for the companies. The goals must be anchored to the present situation and must be effective in responding to the possible effects of budget crisis. As for the new version of RBI Baseball, considering the fact that it has lost its popularity, Edward should lead the group in thinking about more innovative ways to inject into the new version of the game. To regain its popularity, there must be a persistent effort among the group to promote the new product. Since the organization is suffering the consequences of budget crisis, the best decision to take is to think of an alternative way to promote the product. The use of social media would be a great alternative.
