The movie “Ma vie en rose” raises serious enough issue of modern society. Ticklish story of gender identity of the child is shown through the prism of funny stories, which often raise a smile, but not leave aside seriousness of the problem of lack of society`s understanding of people who are not like others. This movie through a story of a seven-year boy, who did not do anything bad to anyone and wants to be a girl, but faces the cruelty of the world, shows one of the most critical issues of genderization.
This film is a stunningly deep. At the first glance, it is seemingly naive and simple, but in reality it is much deeper and sadder. This movie is the voice of all transgender children, those unloved children who from an early age have to encounter the cruelty and injustice of this world, those who do not understand why others ceased to love them.
This movie must be watched by everybody. It shows that transgender people are ordinary ones, but more than others need to be understood and supported. Especially this regards to transgender children. This film is about how easy it is to infringe the immature child's psyche, how easy it is to leave a mental scar in the gentle soul of a child. This film is about a child who was rejected simply because he is a little bit not like everyone else. This film clearly shows when parental love and truth end, and selfishness and lie start. “Ma vie en rose” allows a viewer to perceive transsexualism not from a false side which was contrived by perverted society, but from a true and real position – from the position of pain and loneliness, confusion and denial of a transsexual. The audience alongside with the main character goes this way and begins to understand what it is really like to be a transsexual.
The filmmakers perfectly fulfilled a task so that a viewer who does not understand the phenomenon of transsexuality well could feel the sympathy for the main character – a transgender child. Looking at this child, one cannot say for sure, whether this is a girl or a boy. The main character looks very different from the appearance of his brothers, who cannot be confused with a girl. Other children in the film, in contrast to adults, are more tolerant to the “strange” kid. Looking at the way they communicate between each other, we can easily recall our own childhood, when gender stereotypes did not form so much among ourselves. Thanks to this movie director`s approach, a viewer looks at the world together with the main character and wonders why adults are getting angry. Thanks to this, the main idea of the film is easily understood by the audience.
Sometimes the film was making me smile, but most of it I was crying, anyway. The movie showed the reality as it is: homophobia really flourishes nowadays, and it is sad. But at the same time, the movie also gives us hope for the best. It gives us hope that with every new generation people will become more tolerant to each other, will understand and accept each other such as they are, without regard to outdated stereotypes.
“Ma vie en rose” is one of the few films on the transgender topic, which is often incomprehensible for most of people. And mainly this fact makes similar films necessary to be watched by all, after which people may think about the problem shown in the movie and make correct conclusions.
