Free Neighborhood Parking Essay Sample

Our Ashwood neighborhood is witnessing increasingly negative instances. Since City Council has decided recent developments an increasing number of families move in which resulted in a bit of crowdedness formerly unexperienced in our neighborhood. There have also been instances of frictions between new movers and "old" residents, some of which led to unseemly encounters. Notably, some new movers brought in new habits which, to older residents, have shown to be not only annoying but sometimes irritating. As a matter of fact, instances of incompatibility and frictions are so many to count. Yet, of all instances one emerges as of particular annoyance: neighborhood parking.
As new wave of movers settled in, vehicles of all sizes and shapes came along. These have come to not only be parked randomly in our neighborhood but came to pose real risks to drivers and passersby alike. A new neighbor would park her car in such a way as to block a driveway partially or completely so backing out from a garage becomes impossible. This is, unfortunately, a scene which continues to occur over and again and has led, predictably, to instances of sorrowful verbal abuse. There are many instances as one can count. Yet, occurrence in irregular times has made parking in our neighborhood a real headache.
The parking problem is more accentuated over weekends or, god forbid, when a new neighbor happens to throw a party. Aside from exceptionally loud horning, vehicles of all sizes – now blocking not only different cars from moving by but also walking – start to spread about in our neighborhood as if no one lives around. Understandably, no offence is meant at anyone at all. However, unacceptable practices should not only be prohibited in our community but also banished and shunned.
That vehicles in our neighborhood continue to be a source of annoyance is something no one means to be intentional or malicious about. However, unintended consequences are now unfolding as a result of mass movements of people across areas or neighborhoods. In fact, bigger cities, such as New York, loom so large in visitor's minds that even a most adamant supporter of "free flow" of people and almost about everything might well have to think about letting everyone just parks her or his car anywhere. True, new residents hail from areas of different cultural make-up and understanding which allows for acceptable deviation from common sense rules. However, residents – particularly old ones – continue to live in a state of continuous anxiety and, often, irritation because of vehicles. Prior to new movers settling in our community, vehicles were never an issue. Again, no harm or malice is meant at anyone. Yet again, if one is to reside in a community in which residents – collectively – contribute to community's overall health, all issues – however insignificant to some – should be discussed openly, honestly and, not least, constructively.
In my presentation of neighborhood parking problem in our community I do not mean to antagonize, alienate or defame any particular person or group of persons from newly moving neighbors. Instead, I am laying out an issue which might impact a whole community as new expansions and developments create new realities. There is no question new developments in different neighborhoods, not only in our county but also in all counties nation-wide, are an integral part of life progress in general. Communities do not stay put at all but rather continue to grow in space and over time. However, our community's growth has been one of a bit of a bumpy ride. Hopefully, our bumpy ride would not be one which lasts for long – nor meets a dead-end.
