The government has been authoritarian when it comes to striking a balance between matters pertaining to the individual rights of the citizens and National Security. Us administration is always in the frontline agitating for freedom of citizens in other countries while the practices and the laws of our land do not depict freedom. The National Defense Authorization Act, signed in December 31,2014 gives the security officers the authority to detain the citizens indefinitely. Indefinite detention of citizens simply because of security does not define what our country stands for, and this is being draconian to the citizens. Based on the law that was signed on 31st December 2014, all the suspects on matters pertaining to terrorism should be held by the military. The law gives the president the authority indefinitely to detain any citizens who are accused of terrorist acts. Such a law strips the citizens of their legal protection when they are suspects. The government also oversteps the freedom to enjoy privacy. The legalization of warrantless searches because of matters pertaining to national security deprives the citizens their privacy. The president today has the power to order warrantless surveillance in a particular place or company. According to the law, the president has the powers to force organizations and different companies to give information regarding the personal life of an individual, communications, associations and finances. The organizations while revealing the information should not disclose any information to the affected individual. The Patriot Act formed in 2001 gave the President such powers and as President Bush placed such into practice. The Patriot Act of 2011 gives the president the power to search for everything including the library records and the business documents.
