I agree with that the performance management involves four aspects, planning, managing and coaching, performance appraisal, and recognizing and rewarding in a continuous cycle. The main aim of performance management is to ensure continuous improvements, adaptation to changes, strive to attend the set goals, encourage creativity, promote professional and learning development, and reward the employees accordingly (University of South Florida, n.d. par. 1).
There are some factors that motivate employees so as to perform well. These factors include and not limited to:
Knowing what is expected of them by the employer
Having the right working tools
The right opportunity for optimal performance
Appreciation of their hard work
Praise and recognitions and be valued as humans (not as functions of the job)
Receive encouragement
Be listened to, and their opinions been taken into account while making decision
Made feel worthwhile
Have a positive work relationship
Discuss their progress
Have an opportunity to grow.
It is thus evident that the process of performance management must include all the workers actively so as to make them feel like part of the system and be positively motivated. In as much as performance management is good, some of its aspects can be counterproductive especially if some of the employees feel targeted unfairly. What are some of the ways the management can use to ensure that no employee feels targeted unfairly in the process of performance management?
On the same note, there are some best practices in the whole process of performance management that any successful company ought to follow. What are some of the best practices and how can they improve the application of the performance management?
