The idea of European Integration has been one of the most serious and significant questions in 20th century. The idea of integration of European countries started prior Second Word War and got stronger after the war ended. European integration has a positive aspect, as it increases Europe economical grow. Germany and France had hard relationship between the countries, due devastating conflict which occurred during Second World War. European integration makes a priority goal to unite these countries making them living in the harmony.
European project or European integration begin to involve many events. New communities and treaties become the major part of European integration. Nowadays European project include 27 representative countries. The European Union - a union of democratic European countries, set up to carry out joint activities in the name of peace and prosperity. Member states of the European Union have common authority, which they delegate some of their sovereignty so that decisions on matters of common interest can be made democratically at European level. There are some goals of European Union that we can point out: removal of all restrictions on trade between member states, the establishment of a common customs tariff in trade with third countries, elimination of restrictions on free movement of people, capital and services, the creation of a monetary union, harmonization of the tax system, approximation of legislation.
For half a century the European Union provides the stability, peace and prosperity in Europe. European project managed to raise the standard of living, to build a single European market, put into circulation the single European currency - the euro - and to strengthen Europe's position in the world.
Nowadays European Integration has faced serious issues and two of them can be easily pointed out. The first one is a European constitution. Two countries: French and Dutch dismissed the document which brought a failure in plans. The second issue was Treaty of Lisbon. In 2009, the year before referendum, Ireland rejected Treaty of Lisbon by voting. This document didn’t meet their requirements and was regarded as less alternate to constitution. European integration has faced serious issues with one of the states. One of the leading countries – Great Britain is usually related with political disputes. Great Britain brought arguments between Eurosceptic Conservative Party and pro-European Liberal Democrats. They have been conflicting about repealing European Convention of Human Rights. This law act was incorporating with British Law.
Jürgen Habermas one of the defenders of European Integration points out that European project has two be implemented as soon as possible. He points out that this project is important both to Europe and the world. He points out that modern world face a lot of serious problems as poverty and climate change and making European Integration would make economic liberalization and make single market which will allow to overcome those problems. At the same time David Miller argues about this project saying that EU lower the authority of other countries. His major concern is country right, he states that many countries can be included in EU, but their voice won’t be heard.
