PROBLEM
Unemployment is one of the most prevalent problems at the community level. It is a global phenomenon that affects 14.5% of the youthful individuals of employable age. . It is perceived as a major problem due to its link to other vices such as violence, crime, prostitution et cetera. These vices later on affect the stability of the community making it unsafe to both residents and even potential visitors and investors. The unemployment issue is a ticking-time-bomb that requires strong, ardent measures that will contain it. The problem maybe as a result of recent economic downturns but still there are various measures that can be put into place to ensure that it is mitigated.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
Establishment of modern facilities that encourage talent growth, skills management, capacity building and apprenticeship:
Having proper infrastructure at the community level will be key in the containment of unemployment among the youth. Many of the youthful individuals through these facilities will acquire good mentorship as well as tools that will help them acquire the necessary skills to participate the job market or even create own jobs. An incubation center at the community level, for instance, may enable promising youths to showcase their unique innovations and ideas that if supported can open up doors for entrepreneurial ventures.
Incorporation of entrepreneurship and self-improvement courses in the community education institutions:
An upgraded school curriculum can be fundamental in ensuring the youth are nurtured at an early age to be self-sufficient. Through these courses, the youth may acquire skills that enable them to be job creators rather than job seekers.
Creation of policies aimed at boosting employment:
The local leadership in conjunction with the larger governance may pursue policies and legislations aimed at reducing unemployment rates. The laws are essential for ensuring that systems work to enhance employment rates at the community level. It is these policies that may attract funding to youth entrepreneurial ventures and also investors who may create employment opportunities for idle individuals.
REFUTATION AND CONCESSION
The creation or upgrade of community facilities may help in alleviating the unemployment problem. However, this proposed solution can be relied on to do so on a long-term basis. Many of the unemployed may not immediately feel its trickled down effects in a short span of time. The proposed solution is also vulnerable to the bureaucratic procedures that may delay the upgrade.
The weakness observed in the second solution is pegged on the fact that improved curriculums need to be backed by follow-up policies. It is important for the backup plans to be created to ensure that graduates from community-based institutions are in tandem with the course teachings.
The third solution is highly efficient in that it impacts on a spectrum of sectors in a community setting. Despite the critics’ assertion that vested interests are in play in policy creation, this option is most viable.
CONCLUSION
Unemployment is a problem that affects many communities globally. It is a problem that if remains unchecked may hinder the growth of any community, society and nation. It is thus important to implement strategies that are perceived viable and integral in its containment. The improvements of communal infrastructure, upgraded school curriculums, as well as the creation of pro-employment policies, are some of the measures identified. If properly executed they all can reduce unemployment rates considerably. However, in terms of effectiveness, the creation of pro-employment policies ranks best.
