Individual Sustainable Development Assignment (ENGG107 2013-14) v1
Product or Process or System Selected (Friday 25 October submission)
plastic bottles
Brief description of the scope of product, process or system , its
market situation and your Sustainable Development concerns
(Friday 25 October submission)
Plastic bottles plays a very important role in our society. Manufacturing plastic bottles is done from various raw materials in the world. it include cellulose, coal, crude oil, salt and natural gas. This raw materials all occur naturally they are not strain as much to the environment which makes the plastics very eco-friendly. plastic bottles are widley used for filling liquids and as the common example; filling the water. plastic bottles are very sustainable due to their ability to be recycled and re-used. the plastic is widley used around which makes it very sustainable economically. The small capacity of its weight reduces the cost of this product.

Background Technology of your Product, Process or System which is relevant to Sustainable Development Issues (Friday 25 October submission)(contains unlimited text box)
Plastic bottles are very strong in structure. This allows them to be very strong as a containers. Once used, they can be collected and re-used in more meaningful ways for instance a plastic container can be washed and used as a water container. after it being used it can be collected and sent back to the industry where they can be heated, separated and re-modeled into newer products. This can be done over and over again without the risk of exhaustion. In order to recycle, first they are assessed to determine their economic and environmental viability. If they have no better economic and environmental sustainability, then their calorific content can be recovered. Modern day technology does this basically through advanced decomposition mechanisms and collecting the energy from the incineration of the plastics. then, it can be used as a source of subsistent power for uses such as home cooking. In recycling they can be molded into complex shapes which significantly reduce the cost of assembling various materials into one model besides the use of fixtures.
Moreover, The knowledge of plastics bottles is wide and it has seen that various companies and education institutions enroll students to teach them about plastics with an aim to be a source of potential employment in future. In order to economic way to maintaine the sustainability of plastic bottles the governments around the world trade and exchange the plastic bottles or containers.
It is evident that plastics play a major role in the sustainability of our economy, social lives and as well as our environment. Their wide application and ease of processing makes them a sustainable product.

Design Opportunities Matrix (Friday 8 November submission)
Give A,B and C a short title .Describe each opportunity briefly, referring back to your scoring matrix..AT LEAST ONE OPPORTUNITY MUST INVOLVE MATERIALS INITIATIVES FOR WHICH YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN. Position the letters A,B,C in the matrix.
Design Opportunity A
This opportunity appears when chance of success of potential benefits have at least one low indicator. It means that production will be succesful and sustainable, but won't be competitive on the market and won't have any benefits.Or on the contrary it will be profitable, butuseless or harmful for environment, society and economics.
Design Opportunity B
This opportunity appears when chance of success of potential benefits don't have low indicators, but have at least one medium indicator. It means that production will be profitable and have some potential benefits in averege, but won't be sustainable enough.
Design Opportunity C
This opportunity appears when chance of success of potential benefits have both high indicators. It means that production will be profitable and will have only good or neutral impact on different fields of life.
Materials information relevant to the Implementation Approach for your selected idea (Friday 28 November submission)(contains unlimited two text boxes and 1 fixed table)
C
Implementation Approach for ONE of your three Design Opportunities which must involve MATERIALS initiatives. (Friday 28 November submission)

General Implementation Approach
Chosen idea is the most optimal design oppurtunity, because it conteins higt chance of success and great potential benefits. Talking about plastic bottles production, it means that it's model will be equally profitable for producer, retailer, consumer, environment and economical system on the whole. And in every stage of life, it will exercise only positive or neutral influence on every sustainable development factor.
The process of plastic bottles production is rather simple and cheap. It can demand not only new natural materials, but also recycled plastic and cellulose. Also it needs some natural sources of energy, but considerably less than for producing glass or metal bottles.
Firstly, production of bottles, packacking, bottling and transporting them demands many qualified specialists and workers, so it creates new employments for young people and brings down the level of joblessness. Secondly, plastic is very profitable material, because its production is really cheap and simple and after consumers phase it can be reduced.
Plastic bottles are handy in daily usage, it's non-toxic, light and durable, it can't be broken-down and it's absolutely harmful in comparison with glass or metal bottles. Also it's much more easier to store and take it to processing place.
As it was said earlier, plastic bottles are very light and compact and it’s cheaper and easier for retailer to transport and store them.
Plastic is very profitable material, because its production is really cheap and simple and after consumers phase it can be reduced.
Government regulates a quality of producted plastic and ecological acceptability of this process. Plastic production don't have noxious emissions and any other harmful factors. Moreover, plastic bottles, which wasn't send to recycle, will be absolutely decomposed in about a year.
Energy
The process of plastic bottles production requires some natural sources of energy, but in rather less amount, than for glass or metal bottles.
