Telehealth Technologies for Heart Failure Disease Management in Rural Areas: An Integrative Research Review

I would like to begin by supporting the view that the title of this study was an appropriate one. As it states, the study was mainly focused on the effectiveness of the use of telehealth in the treatment of Heart Failure (HF) amongst the rural populations. This clearly indicates that it provides an insight on the target population and variables to be used in the research (Gorard, 2013). In its introduction, it has a precise and thought-provoking problem statement that easily helps in identifying the main issue. It contains relevant hypotheses and research questions that if properly utilized, can be useful in conducting the research because they are all consistent with the literature review.
In its part, the literature review is quite authoritative, sound and relevant to the kind of research being conducted. Besides, it contains a number of reference materials drawn from credible scholars whose authority is not in doubt. After all, these resources are well-researched and up do date primary sources and can be relied upon to provide a road map for the study (Freshwater; Sherwood & Drury, 2006). Since this is an Integrative Research Review (IRR), the researchers adopted the use of methods that appropriately suit it. By focusing on the effectiveness of telehealth technologies and level of health outcome as the independent and dependent variables respectively, the research carefully chose the methodology of the research (Hamer & Collinson, 2005). This encompassed the use of appropriate data collection instruments and sampling technique that proportionately represents the entire population. Better still, the researchers used a control group and ensured that all the issues of ethical concern were taken into account not to harm the lives of the subjects.
The results gotten from the research were analyzed and presented using statistical methods. This was simplified by using tables, percentages and other statistical analysis. Later, the results were adequately discussed and interpreted so as to make them comprehendible. Indeed, this research did not surprise me because it provided useful findings that can be relied upon by professionals and future researchers who are interested in knowing much about the effectiveness of telehealth technologies in the treatment of HF (Parahoo, 2008).
