Free Religious Tradition: Sexuality AND Marriage In Islam Essay Example

Introduction

The marriage is an institution of legal relationship between man and woman through the family system according to the divine religions. Both the society and civilization require the existence of marriage with a standard regulation of sexual expression of the married couple. Correspondingly, marital sex is a vital significance in the life of the individuals as it propagates the human life and the society at its dependent fulfillment of discipline. According to Prophet Mohammed, he recommends to his Ummah (Islamic community) the nikah (sex and marriage or marital contract) in Islam stating that “nikah is my Sunnah (a verbally transmitted record of the teachings, deeds and sayings), my way” . It implies that in marriage, there exists a shared pleasure between spouses alone. Even though the exercise of sexuality is allowed and even encouraged, the human sexuality cannot be conceived without marital and family life because marriage to a non-Muslim or a non-believer is considered void, discrimination is enforced between male and female sexuality, heterosexuality, homosexuality, and premarital sex, and a social phenomenon that is mainly regulated by Islam where this religion prevails.

From the Qur’an Surah an-Nisa, it states that the men and women are created from nafs wahidah (a single soul). It means that an individual does not come before the other, an individual is not superior to the other, or it is not the derivative of the other. In the Qur’anic teachings, the human sexuality is the soberest nature that explained thoroughly the different traditions of the Holy Prophet. It demonstrates that the verses from the Qur’an relate to the aspects of human sexuality as an ideal way in educating the individuals about the matter. In Islam, the subject of sex is a serious topic and it is not for absolute pleasure. The topic of sexuality always relates to the marital life considered as a superior human relationship created with love, tranquility, and affection of the healthy and happy life of the spouses.
Additionally, the discrimination is enforced between male and female sexuality, heterosexuality, homosexuality, and premarital sex. The moment the married couple make love, the Almighty Allah (God) looks at them with full of kindness. Positively, the written Muslim law shows all the married couples and the believers how to embrace the blessing of Allah and His words. Regarding the heterosexuality and homosexuality, the law of Islam clarifies that homosexuals are whipped, sentenced, and imprisoned; the major doctrine of Sunnah and Shi’a agreed about the rejection of heterosexuality and homosexuality. However, some minor doctrines affirm that homosexuals should not be punished. Generally speaking, the acceptance of sexuality by Islamic texts is partial. It implies that it favors men and certain ways of one’s sexual expression. Particularly, the sexuality is constrained by the patterns of masculine and heterosexual domination, respectively.
In detail, the Islam religion exposes the notion of zina (illicit sex). The Islam religion has the effort against the premarital sex that causes great conflict with the sex education. As a human right, the sex education meets the desire of the young people to thoroughly understand the function of their bodies, relationships, and emotions that surely results to quality reproductive and sexual health. The information is linked with the rights to health, sexual rights, and the ability to negotiate marital rights. Consequently, the proper sex education falls under the Muslim youth’s right to a clear understanding of the Islamic education. The Qur’an shows the proper way that no individual, especially a man, not to throw negative actions to his wife. On the other hand, a man can choose his wife and in Islam, a man is allowed to marry as many as four wives when the woman has an illness, aging, and incapable of bearing a child. In the religious tradition of Islam, men remain sexually active for life and the Polygyny (plural marriage) keeps them from committing adultery.

Conclusion

The most significant reason of human sexuality is that it cannot be conceived without a family life. It is a social phenomenon that is largely regulated by the traditions of Islam. In Islam, the sexuality of human beings is not ignored; traditionally, it considered the sexuality as a blessing and a source of tranquility and peace. The religion of Islam gives an appropriate frame to embrace and enjoy the blessing of the Almighty Allah. Evidently, the Qur’an and Sunnah allow it as a source of reward in the life after death with the emotional satisfaction and procreation. Specifically, to sustain and increase the population of Muslim Ummah, the Prophet Mohammed mentioned many times about the tradition that a man should marry a fertile and loving woman. Marital sex is a strong force in individuals that demands fulfillment and satisfaction. The Islam religion encouraged in regulating this natural urge within certain limits among married couples. Islam, in particular, recognizes the importance of the marital sex as a blessing and facilitates its satisfaction through lawful means such as marriage.
