WHY WOMEN WAIT LONGER TO GET MARRIED IN THE NEW AMERICAN SOCIETY

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. Are women waiting longer to get married today in America?
2. Is career a factor contributing to delayed marriages?
3. What other predisposing factors lead to longer waits?
4. Who waits longer between Caucasian women and black women when it comes to the issue of marriage?

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The purpose of this study is to investigate the attributing factors that lead to American Women shying away from marriage till their latter years.
The basic hypothesis is that education of women is the main factor that contributes to American women delaying to get married. In addition, most women now in America are career-driven and opt to advance their careers at the expense of marriage. Some also desire to be financial stable before getting into the life-long union (Stephanie Coontz).

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TOPIC

Modernization experienced in 21st century has lead to massive changes on people’s perceptions on critical issues i.e. culture, values, religion, marriage among others. While Erin Hayes has been keen to spell out the relative trends in marriages in America leaving out the reasons factors contributing to the reluctance of American Women to get into marriage (2014).Goldstein & Kenney outlines that in this new set of marriage trend, by the age of forty five year most will be married (2001). This paper therefore expounds on the predisposing issues that lead to shying away from marriage as well as delve a little deeper to compare the trend among Black and Caucasian women.

AUDIENCE

This study explores the wide topic of emerging trends in marriage as well as finds conclusive evidence to attach the given subject of comparison between two races. Its significance is mainly important to statisticians and other researchers who may want to build upon the foundation to be laid by the research and advance the particular field of study or a part of it.
