Free Sex Offender Treatment Essay Example

A sex offense is the acts that promote sexual assault or nature towards another person without his or her consent. The effectiveness of this treatment is a heated topic debated today. It is imperative to note that the public fear of sex offenders is often over created by the media itself. With a low number of offenders coming through the criminal justice system with a huge amount of resources been applied for their effective treatment is a point of concern and need in-depth evaluation of whether these treatment programs are effective (MacKenzie, 2006).
Even those researchers who believe that the sex offender treatments work believe that only the cognitive-behavioral approaches are effective and that the overall treatment has demonstrated to be marginally effective only in this context. According to one researcher that overall benefit and effectiveness of these treatments can be evaluated in the context that fewer offenders leave the system being fully treated, and the number of resources and tax money applied for their treatment is a financial burden on the taxpayers (MacKenzie, 2006).
The cognitive behavioral treatment is the most effective model for the treatment of sex offenders as it assists the individuals to change their pattern of thinking that are considered to be offensive and unhealthy for them and the society. This treatment model helps people change their thoughts and develop their new skills and knowledge. This treatment does not only focuses on the talk therapy, but it provides directives and assignment for the offenders to make changes in their life. This treatment methodology has no significant political implications for the general public as the decision of sex offender’s treatment is given with the consent of the court (MacKenzie, 2006).
