Should there be Age Restriction to Use the Internet
Technology undoubtedly has made the life of an individual more advanced and people are stepping into an era of technical materials. However, like any invention, technology has its own disadvantages or limitations. The internet which is one of the significant inventions in technology is very useful for all age groups. The contents on the internet are utilized by every age people. Hence, children and adults can be benefitted from this technology. On the other hand, it brings demerits as the restriction for age group to use the internet is required. The children aged below pre-teens are prevented from the exposure to the internet. This restriction is due to the harmful contents available unchecked on internet which can harm the mindset of the children. Children can catch up the things quickly and act accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary to keep a check on the material which they are been represented.
The internet café evaluation displayed the purpose of using the internet for children was significant to prove the age restriction to be beneficial for the children. This evaluation determined that the high percent of people were indulged in the chatting and e-mails on the internet, and rare were found to be actually researching any content or studying (Kidd, 2008). This leads to the waste of precious time. Children are not completely matured. Consequently, they become the victims of various traps including, cyber bullying, solicitation, and harassment. Thus, restriction of age group using the internet should be maintained (Burgert, 2013). On the other hand, the online video games impact the children’s mind in a negative connotation. The aggressive and violent attitude which is developed in children is due to these video games. These games are played in childhood when the mind is growing. Hence, it affects the mind more than it will harm in adolescence (Anderson et al., 2007). Furthermore, the material related to pornography is easily available on the internet, and some sites also offer the view of this material openly without any restriction (Gher et al., 2000). The exposure to such stuff can badly damage the child’s imagination. Therefore, it is recommended to restrict the age for the use of internet extensively.
