After a differentiation strategy, managers should be cost efficient in using resources because the proximity of the cost can hamper customer view. Thus, if the manager in incompetent in handling cross-functional departments such as production and marketing, he/she would expect to fail. If such kinds of managers are unavailable internally, then the organization must recruit a suitable outsider. There should be a reconsideration of the policy and an exception made depending o the condition of promotion from within policy, The organization may also promote one of its own, which will be a cautious way to proceed (Hill and Gareth).
Implementation of a retrenchment strategy depends on the importance of the issue. If the issue is not critical, the organization should focus on reducing unnecessary overhead and attempt to justify the cost of functional activities. The organization should divest to keep productive division on track with much focus. In addition, the board of directors should be strong enough to keep the management on the right way instead of concentrating on profit maximization (Lewis).
For an organization's culture to change, the management should identify that it is impossible to convert every employee at once. They should begin with individuals who have a greater influence in the organization. Then, they should find ways to get people experience the harsh realities that make it a requirement. Finally, they should find ways to redistribute resources towards important areas that need few resources but lead to a large change (Daft and Richard).
