Farewell, My Lovely Appetizer" by S. J. Perelman
I think the narrator seeks to make fun out of the story he is giving or the experience he went through. I do not think that the persona is in any position to abandon “the lovely appetizer” because he pretends to take it in secrecy (hiding it underneath), but thereafter experience the feeling associated with it. The persona demands for a life insurance, she needs to go for a vacation, but interestingly, she has no money. She is already drunk in such a way that she cannot engage in a meaningful activity with anyone. I believe that the whole experience is funny with the way she conducts herself.
It is So Hard by Sykes
The persona narrates about how it is difficult to get out of a relationship. He considers a dream where a friend of him, who has is divorced and single contemplate on the issue of getting out of a relationship that no longer works. It is true that the difficulty in making the decision according to the persona is that one fails to communicate to the mate about breaking the relationship. The persona and the friend pity those who have quitted their relationship because of the emotional trauma they might be going through. In a certain situation, though humorous in nature, Neil and the friend, in a dream, considers a person who seeks to quit a love affair, but feels like killing the mate as a way of breaking the relationship. I believe he did the right thing to avoid being bias. To elaborate of the subject topic, Neil incorporates the experience of Scott, a friend, who shares his sentiments on how it is hard to get out of a relationship.
I think it is humorous the way the author and his wife practice to entertain people at a party even though their wits fail. I know that the wife gave the author faulty information, which did not ensure proper co-ordination in their fictions play. As the brainstorm between the two fail, the husband concentrate on a television lady comedian who attracts his attention. I concur with the way his wife behaved because it is rational to be jealous about such a move though not in public.
