Question 23.1 Different machine operations on a lathe machine

Three basic operations that can perform in lathe machine include; turning facing, and boring. First, turning refers to when a material is while being machined to form ridges, indents and groves on the material. Second, facing is an operation aimed at creating a flat surface at the end section and perpendicular to the axis. Boring is an enlargement of an existing cavity.. The material placed on the lathe machine spins as the boring tool is driven slowly into the opening.
23.3 Reasons for the development of power chucks
Power Chucks have been used extensively in Lathe machines. Their transitions of development have occurred through many years. The most current models were developed to provide powerful clamping force during the drilling operation. This clamping process is usually performed in a precise and high-level of speed and rugged durability. Today, there are various developed models of chucks that include; LMC brand power, Chandox brand model among many other.
23.6 Boring work on a lathe and Boring on a horizontal boring mill.
Boring on a lathe mainly refers to an operation aiming to enlarge an existing hole. The hole can be molded, drilled, forged or cast. The material placed on the lathe machine spins as the boring tool is driven slowly into the opening. The tools used have a cylindrical shape and have a cutting too protruding. While on the other hand, Horizontal boring mill is a machine tool that bores the required holes in a horizontal direction. The machine has three linear axes which conventionally spindle to provide the horizontal boring process.
23.7 Determining the drill life
In order to determine the drill life, several hypotheses have been postulated to reveal the exact dates and span of the drill. The most recent method is the use of well-developed calculator. This calculator uses surface finish values, speed and corner radius to reveal the life span of the drill.
23.8 Reasons for performing reaming operations.
Reaming operations are meant to produce safe and clean holes. The holes are normally drilled un-sized then later ream to size. The machine reamer cutting action is carried out on a chamfer removing materials in small amount. The reamer is meant to run straight to produce smooth finishing. When using a machine reamer the hole is first drilled slightly under size then reamed before drilling the next hole ensuring that the reamer gets aligned accurately over the hole.
23.9 The function of the saddle on a lathe
Saddle mainly refers to a casting that fits onto the top of the slides and the bed. This part contains selection of gears that allow the carriage to be driven up and down the bed. The mechanism allows the screw cutting and other powerful tool feeds within the machine.
23.1 Difference between a blind hole and a through hole
A blind hole refers to a hole made from the top layer to the bottom layer to some middle layers but not all through. On the other hand, a through hole is made all the way through the board layers. A through hole saves the cost of operation and may be used in low density boards. However, blind hole increase the cost of operation since it require a multi-layered board in to produce better results.
