Conclusion
Information technology is a sub field of the project management. Through this study on the understanding project management for IT projects, several points have been identified and analyzed. First and the most important is that the management of the IT projects is quite different and complex as compared to the other disciplines of engineering. The study not only highlighted three (3) hypothesis statements regarding the issues in the IT Project management, but also, presented an analysis and ended-up with a conclusion. Moreover, it has been identified that the project manager of an IT project has to face several challenges in the management of the IT projects. And in this regard, this study highlighted various guidelines in respect of the project management and information technology in a way that the project managers would able to manage and resolve the IT project management challenges successfully.
The concluding notes of the study of understanding project management include the following. In order to manage an IT project, the project manager should have experience, qualifications, and knowledge of both the disciplines of project management and information technology. The project manager should have knowledge of the IT enabled processes in a way that the IT project can successfully be implemented in an organization. The successful implementation of an IT project can only be possible by focusing the five (5) phases of the project management and nine (9) knowledge areas of project management. As per the studied literature and analysis, it is concluded that the roles and responsibilities of the project team and especially the IT project manager play the most significant role in successful implementation of the IT project.
