According to Arnold (2013, p.138), the role of the corporations and other business enterprises to the public entails a big responsibility of becoming agents of global justice. Being an agent of global justice is a very challenging endeavor. The obligations of these corporations to fulfill the duty of global justice include what is known as the corporate social responsibility or the “CSR”. Poverty is evident all over the world and many people are suffering because of hunger and inadequate means to live. Many of the international business scholars argued that it is imperative that entrepreneurial and corporate strategies must be implemented to alleviate the poverty rate in the world (Arnold, 2013, p. 126). And they suggest that this can be done through business interaction using the base of the
pyramid (BoP) strategies by providing opportunities for enhanced consumer choice (Arnold, 2013, pp. 125-126).
However, it is apparent that the issue of exploitative business activity continues to be unresolved since majority of the corporations fail to observe CSR practices and they objective is focused on promoting self-interest and earning more profit margins. Some of the abuses committed by these corporations cause significant harm to the consumers by selling products such as cigarettes, alcohol, tobacco, sugary sodas and other beverages which are not good for the health. Some of the unethical business practices may be in the form of usurious micro-loans, exposing the laborers to unsafe and hazardous working conditions, forced overtime, abusive supervision, or depriving them of their right to collective bargaining (Arnold, 2013, p. 126).
