Gillis reported that according to scientists, the heat waves in Australia in 2013 resulted from the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Different groups of scientists conducted research studies using different methods. Results of these research studies consistently and unanimously underscored the effect of greenhouse gases, particularly caused by human emissions, in prompting the series of heat waves that struck Australia. Scientists even compared the temperature brought about by heat waves to the predicted temperature in the country with the absence of greenhouse gases. Gillis also explored research studies about the drought in California. Outcomes of research studies revealed that although several factors contribute to drought in the state, greenhouse gas emissions exacerbated drought.
Gillis, however, maintained a balanced perspective in discussing the issue. Gillis also cited research studies that debunk the link between greenhouse gas and human emissions to weather phenomena or climate change. Some researchers maintained that tracing the link between greenhouse gas emissions and climate change was difficult and further studies must be conducted to truly substantiate widespread claims about the issue. Despite these claims, the research studies about heat wave in Australia offer evidence that could public debate about human emissions in the country.
Stott, et al. also explored the issue by citing many research studies linking human emissions and greenhouse gases to climate change and weather patterns. Stott, et al. (51), however, maintained that it is difficult to base data and information about climate change on these research studies because other scholarly studies debunk these claims. Natural variability, for instance, is one of the factors that affect academic discussions and studies about climate change. Outcomes of studies are variable such that some studies prove the link between greenhouse gas emissions to climate change while other studies demystify these claims.
Both articles present important issues that essentially affect the views and perspectives of communities. One of the ideas articulated in both articles is to maintain a balanced perspective in studying climate change and global warming. It is important to remember that some studies prove this link while others debunk it. Nonetheless, communities must still remain vigilant due to the extensive number of research studies proving that human activities and greenhouse gas emissions contribute to climate change. Although some studies debunk this theory, communities must still adopt practices and changes that reduce human emissions. Communities must take responsibility when it comes to reducing the impact of human activities on greenhouse gas emission. In the same way, the scientific community must continually adopt research methods and conduct studies to explain climate change and the impact of human activities on this phenomenon. Scientists and researchers must develop better ways to study this link. Doing so is important in establishing solid, reliable, and verifiable facts about climate change and addressing uncertainties about the issue.
