The sweet sounds of the Apapane birds wake me from my deep sleep with the cool soft wind whispering against my cheek. Here on the island it is the universe that delivers the wakeup call as the gentle sound of nature summons my spirit to begin a new day. As I rise to my feet, the bright cerulean wonder of the ocean is the first image that my eyes meet. Standing breathing in the sweet smell of the exotic mango trees and coconut palms that blend so effortlessly with the salty smell of the sea is one that soothes the senses. A scent unlike any other, only here in the vast expanse of heaven that I am blessed to call home.
Stepping outside I feel the powder soft warmth of the sand between my toes. Millions of years of wind and water that has worked diligently to compress the rocks and minerals, which is kindly providing the ground that I walk on. The gold flecks shimmering beneath me as I walk towards the surf. The waves rush to greet me like a long lost friend. I step into the cool wetness where sand meets water. My body is drawn to the endless aquatic home of the delightful dolphins who joyfully say hello leaping and splashing in and out of the home we share. The sunlight shines against their shiny sleek surface that becomes one with surroundings. Everything here is that way; there are no divisions between nature and the lives that inhabit the island.
The further I begin to surrender myself to the formless womb of the sea, I begin to feel weightless, and once again I owe it to the kindness of Mother Nature as she continues to care for me. Under the clear blue water many more glories await me. The splendor below is exquisite with colors that adorn the sea life. Colors that one can only dream of, but here they are real. Here they sooth my soul, I feel complete, I have become a piece of this land. Everywhere I look, the lush green towering mountains, the sparkling sand, the boundless marine, and the glorious gift of diverse wildlife that I now call my family are surrounding me every moment here on the island. The tangy sweet fruits that nourish my body leaving me fulfilled beyond my physical hunger. My body’s source of hydration also provided by the water from the coconut and the fresh water springs abound in the forest. Many nights I lay and wonder if any of this is real. Is this a dream or maybe am I in heaven. The perfection of life on the island is surreal. I am home.
