Good Article Review About More Than A Bake Sale: Private Funds For Public Schools

In her article Erika M. Kitzmiller tried to describe the problems of education in Philadelphia. Thus, we can see that the local authorities are not very worried about the future of young people. Inequitable distribution of the budget may lead to closure of public schools. Unfortunately, it can be corrected only by private funds of pupils’ parents, sponsors and simply caring people. Schools should search for any way to restore teachers and raise education system. In this way, youth is suffering because of such injustice.

Reflection about the reading

Let's look at this situation from a respective of a student. If I were in such situation, I would have been very disappointed. For the moment I believe only private funds will help to prevent the closure of public schools, but not everybody is able to allocate a certain amount of money. In this case, could it mean that a number of students would not be able to get a proper education? Then there would be a lot of unemployed people because of lack of education. Nevertheless, the government can fix this problem and it is really true. They just should correctly calculate the budget, then everything will fall right into place and we will be able again to be educated in a proper way.

Influence on different people

After analyzing the text, we can conclude that schools of Philadelphia are fully dependent on the budget distribution. At the same time, the use of private funds by public schools can lead to discrimination both racially and socially. A lot of people of different race, gender, economic classes just live very poor and do not have extra money to pay for education that is considered to be free of charge. Thus, I think private funds are not an option. But as we want to achieve justice, we urgently need to do something.
