It is notable that Sitka has been one of the certified companies under the umbrella of “think globally, act locally.” Through its sustainability initiative, Sitka Café has benefited the community in a number of ways. This paper seeks to discuss the community impact of certification of Sitka as a model organization embracing the think globally, act locally initiatives.
Impacts of the Certification on the Community
Sitka certification has benefited the community by enlightening the society on the understanding of the fundamental principles that define the next economy. By encouraging local production, Sitka ensures food security. The company emboldens viable fisheries, farm-to-table, and permaculture practices. The organization is promoting community awareness on the need to conserve the America’s fast evolving food culture. As such, the community shave become more conscious their responsibility in creating a healthier, safe, and sustainable food system in America.
