IntroductionHistorical studies indicate that, about half a century ago most countries were decolonized and were either considered as developing or underdeveloped countries. There was much need to move things fast in order for the countries to regain on the economic setbacks they had. Most countries especially the ones that are now considered as developing countries had the state trying to empower the local industries in order to produce more. After a while most of the countries realized that the only way to catch up with the western is to embrace the industrialization and global economics in order to achieve fast industrialization. The state embraced global economics by adopting international trade and international standards used in accelerating the growth of the economy through agriculture and modernization of infrastructure in areas of high potential. The aim of this paper is to look at the effects of modernization in different parts of the world. The following are some of the recent case studies that look at the effect of modernization in specific areas. In Malawi modernization has improved the way agriculture is done among the natives. Before the states decide to conform to what modernization the farmers in Malawi relied on the indigenous methods of cultivation and farm use. The farmers in Malawi used manual methods in the tilling of land and harvesting of major of their crops a factor that led to low output on the farms. Modernization and the embrace of the global economy led to the need for high output in order to have a surplus that can also be used for export. The need to trade in the global economy led to the need of modernization of agriculture in major agricultural communities in the area. The use of fertilizers and farm pesticides and farm machinery was introduced to improve the output of the agricultural sector in the country. The move improved the agricultural practices in the country to help it compete in the global market. In India the community that used the Neem tree products for their normal life has had the negative effect of modernization. The community used the products of the Neem for pesticides and other medicinal uses. The tree was also used for religious reasons and healing purposes. The government of India did not patent any products of the Neem and the natives used to use the Neem’s products as they saw fit. In the event of modernization the products of the Neem were patented by multinational corporations making it difficult for the native to use the products of the Neem. The factor led to the erosion of the culture of the natives that used the Neem. The Shimsalis of Pakistan have also had the negative effect of modernization mostly affecting their culture. The modernization in the name of schools and social amenities, led to the grabbing of ancestral land from the natives and also the erosion of their hunting culture since most of the forests around the people were cut down to pave way for infrastructural development. The farmers in Mato Graso have felt both the negative and positive effects of modernization. The positive is that the industry has greatly improved especially in the methods used for farming. The new methods of ranching have helped improve meat production in the area. The negative impact is that the new development have led to interest in the areas land hence the destruction of the environment especially the forests around the area. On the other hand the shack-dwellers in South Africa are as the result of modernization. The high construction rate has led to the depletion of space hence the congestion among the people. Modernization to the shack-dwellers has come as a curse rather than a blessing In conclusion, from the review of the few areas and the effects modernization has had on the areas it can be concluded that for modernization to have the best effect on the society it has to be preplanned and the interests of the people taken into consideration before the implementation of the reforms that come with modernization.
