Introduction

Amazon is a commerce company electronic in nature based in Seattle in the state of Washington DC. It has been branded the largest company of these characteristics in the United States. The history of this company is long, but the interesting part is that this company commenced in 1994 as an online bookstore. After a short time they started diversification and went into sale of products such as VHSs, CDs, MP3 streaming and download, DVDs, electronics, software, furniture, toys, food, jewelry and video games. Through specialization in diversification, the bookstore multiplied its profits and invested more and in the end became the giant that it is. Commitment to success is what brought them to these levels enabling them to compete on the global market. However, a client of Amazon, George, came across an article with disturbing news. The management of Amazon are treating their employees as robots and forcing them to reach limits which are ambiguous and otherwise unreachable (Orkiszewski 207).
The article George found raises an ethical issue which Amazon seems not to care. All they seek is customer satisfaction and whatever means they use to get that is none of their concerns. The article spoke of Amazon employing a management strategy of logistics. It is one that only cares about the best way to complete tasks not putting to thought the strain that the employees will be going through to complete it. This type of management sees the employees as nothing other than robots to meet target and objectives. An ethical issue of this magnitude will have to bring the company’s repute under question by their consumers. As much as they have good services, their approach is not ethical thereby making change a prerequisite. Employees should not be put through this kind of torture all in a bid to satisfy the customers because they have their limits and for mutual benefaction of the employee and employee they should learn of their limits and promote their welfare (Breznay, Marie and Haas 74).
The ethical solutions will definitely have an impact on the behavior of the behavior of the company. Strategic options include business economic requirements which are the financial implications. These requirements include the funds that the company will pay as compensation to the victims as well as fines to the company. Corporate social responsibility involves the moves that the company takes to regain their social status they have in the society they are located. Company culture and behavior means that the operations of the company have to take a new turn. The culture will have to incorporate new features so that the employees can see the change in the management of the company. The moral requirements as well as judicial requirements involve the obligations that they will have in order to right the wrongs they have perpetrated. For good evaluation criteria, the success of the company will have better results in comprehending the case study.

Evaluative criteria in application

Customer satisfaction is a viable metric of success because it is the force driving the management of this company to take up logistics management and fore gore the welfare of the workers. Employee welfare makes this issue an ethical one as by being treated as robot their welfare is foregone. The company behavior is analyzed in the third aspect in terms of tax compliance. It also brings a controversial point into the case: in case it is a big contributor to the welfare of the community it is in, what action is much better? The company image is something that the company has decided to throw in a ditch. It is a necessity if the company is to realize success and yet this company gives it little priority (Yang 1277).
Should George continue shopping using the Amazon services? Well, that depends on one thing mainly: how verifiable is the article? A confirmation is primary before any judgments can be made. One article is not enough to accuse anyone as it may also be the deeds of rivals or even enemies doing sabotage or on a revenge endeavor. Therefore, George needs much more verifiable facts that speak of the same thing before a conclusion on his part is made. This calls for more research on George’s side to confirm if those are just rumors or do the accusations have a ground. Upon confirmation, it will be upon George to now take action; either he decides to take the ethical move and take measures against Amazon or ignore it all and continue shopping.
The dilemma that George faces is whether he should continue using the services of the Amazon Company or make an ethical decision to try and condemn the whole practice. As mentioned above, the decision of George will be entirely his. However, a proper course of action to take in such a situation is taking a step in the right direction and makes an ethical decision to try and stop the oppressors. George being an individual has very little he could do to save the employees of Amazon. However, the first action he could take is to ensure that the information is brought before the right authority. This is because labor laws are not being followed by this institution. Mistreatment of the workers means that they have no unions to fight for their rights as workers leaving the company with all the monopoly powers to mistreat the workers. Introducing authority will stop the company from the mistreatment. In addition, he could actually start a revolution on the internet by amassing support from the public. In this manner, the Amazon will have to check up their forms of management and employ a better management strategy (Breznay, Marie and Haas 74).

Conclusion

Through analysis of the company’s strengths in terms of what are the ingredients which are primary reasons for the success of the company, a combination of four metrics that can be used as measurements of success of the company. They include profits, customer satisfaction, commitment to targets and objectives and company image in order of their priority. A combination of these entities will form a sound criteria base for the analysis of the situation provided by the case study.
