The singing style was rather soulful resembling ballad. The emotion put on the words were genuine and full making the song and its melody more appealing. The singer did not used falsetto, but rather, she used chest voice which gave the song a character of strength and power. The song seemed like a lamentation for a loved one. The enunciation of words were notably clear and whole which will make you feel the weight of every word of the song—even the accompaniment was appropriate.
The style used by the singer gave life to the passionate yet remorseful lyrics of the song. Passionate, in a sense that the man in the song still loves the woman of his life—that he treasure her very much; remorseful, because no matter how much he loves the woman, he wishes that she never comes back for he wants to be freed from the love that imprisoned him from living his life to the fullest. Basically, the song tells how passion and remorse go hand in hand when it comes to love. It depicts how love can be bittersweet and still desire for it despite everything else—which highlights the imagery of the black dove used in the lyrics of the song. The black dove pertains to the woman who probably went away with no final words or anything at all.
As mentioned above, the accompaniment was very appropriate for the song. Although it has some touch of folk and classical music influence, it was very minimal which gave more emphasis on the singing style and to the song itself. It gave more character to the song and gave off a certain kind of vibe to the listener that would make you want to listen and probably feel the lyrics of the song and its message.
