Chechen terrorism appears during the disintegration of the USSR. In 1991-94 wore the criminal nature of gangs consisting entirely of Chechens or including residents of Chechnya, made several hostage-taking in the North Caucasus, mainly in Mineral Waters. Were attacked passenger buses and airplanes. Operations were not accompanied by political demands; the bandits are usually required currency, weapons and drugs. In 1994-96, while maintaining the type of criminal terrorism 1991-94, new phenomenon: mass kidnappings for ransom (abduction of several dozen construction workers in Grozny, and so on. N.) Terror in the form of large-scale military operations (Budennovsk, summer 1995; Kizlyar - May Day, December. 1995), becoming an international character (capture the Russian ship "Avrasiya" in Trabzon). In 1996, with the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya opportunities for large-scale operations are reduced. The most common form of terrorism is kidnapping Russian and foreign journalists, as well as being a humanitarian mission in Chechnya foreigners. Provocative murders have happened (two doctors of the Red Cross in December. 1996, and so on). To neighboring Dagestan and Ingushetia periodically made sorties, during which took hostages: the police and civilians (25.11.1997 captured in Dagestan 8 militiamen in December. 1997 in Ingushetia - police capture). Presumably, prepared and led the operation field commander Khattab (Chechen from Jordan). Chechen terrorism is becoming more clearly defined political character: on the territory of Russia are thrown into small groups of saboteurs, producing explosions. In 1996-97 the Chechens were held a few diversions in the North Caucasus: 26/06/1996 bus explosion in Mineral Waters, 28.04.1997 - The explosion in Pyatigorsk (presumably - out suicide Dadashova and Teymoskhanova) in April - Armavir. In 1996 held 2 explosions in Moscow trolleybuses, the summer of 1997 in a train Moscow - St. Petersburg, organized these shares Chechens, were not significantly established. The most active in the organization of terrorist acts against Russian citizens Salman Raduyev, Shamil Basayev and Khattab. Moscow as an object of terror attracts Chechens not less than Caucasus. Periodically, the terrorists are trying to bring in the capital of weapons, explosives (which as couriers use women and children), throw subversive groups.
