Edward Deming formulated 14 major principles that are applied in the field and practice of management. The management principles are aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of a business organization, especially in the area of quality enhancement. The first principle entails the development of constancy of purpose involving enhancement of product and service. The intention is to be competitive, and achieve customer requirements. The second philosophy involves adoption of new philosophy. The new philosophy involves transformational leadership that strives for positive transformational change. The third philosophy is eliminating quality inspection, through developing product quality. The fourth principle entails awarding businesses through price tags. The appropriate approach should be the minimization of total costs, and also development of long term trust and loyalty relationships. The fifth issues involve continuously improving the production system. This is with the aim of decreasing costs and also enhancing quality. Principle six concerns job training, with emphasis on enhancing the competencies of the workforce (Rafael, 2012).
Leadership should be adequately embraced; this is with the aim of provided proper vision that provides performance direction. Eliminating fear among the work force is critical in change management. Thus, employees must be involved in critical decision making processes. Principle nine explains that departmental barriers should be removed. People should instead embrace teamwork, which comprises representation from all operation areas. Principle ten entails eliminating the slogans aimed at the workforce, which require zero defects. This is because the bulk of poor quality causes lies with production systems, and not the employees. The issues that minimize hourly rate staffs of workmanship pride should be eliminated; for instance, strict supervision. Employees should be given the space and authority to work without supervision. Principle twelve explains that issues that hinder management workmanship pride should be eliminated; for example, bureaucracy in production process. The thirteenth principle entails enhancing education and also self improvement programs. These programs enhance competencies of staffs. The fourteenth principle entails embracing collective efforts and also teamwork. Cllective efforts are strongly needed, for the realization of overall organization performance (Rafael, 2012).
