Now, several companies are leading their business towards greenhouse friendly policies. Apple is one among the top organizations following the policies of greenhouse environment policies. It primarily focuses on reducing impact of climatic change, conserving the much needed resources, and research on using the greener materials. Apple is one among the top organizations, manufacturing desktop PCs, cellphones, and other technology gadgets. The manufacturing of technological tools and machines require lots of energy, which in turn produces greenhouse gas emissions contributing to climatic change.
Considering this problem a serious issue, the organization has studied and found ways in using energy in way that is more efficient. It takes energy from clean sources and manufacture energy efficient technological products. Apple’s data centers are operated by 100 percent renewable energy. The organization is making even more efforts to add further efficiency to their products. Apple does not use any such substance in their products that have harmful toxins or ones that can negatively affect the health or conditions of people and planet. The company regularly conducts factory audits; test materials used in the products through help of independent laboratories, and validate the results.
Apple manufacture compact products that can be used for longer period. When these products require replacement or remnant material is left, then the organization do its best to recycle so it does not go wasted. It even recycles the material used in packaging, iPhoto products, and iTunes gift cards. Apple retail stores accept used Apple products and recycle them so that least could be taken from the environment. Apple has achieved other high targets as well in technology. Like, today, Apple has managed to manufacture iMac machine that uses 97 percent less electricity than the first machine manufactured in 1998. The latest iMac uses only 0.9 Watt in sleeping mode .
Question 2. Grun Software AG organization provides outsourcing services of software support to different organizations. It is a medium sized organization employing more than 100 employees. The Grun Software Company is located in Germany. The organization has large number of computer machines and other technological gadgets; thus, consuming lots of energy. Grun Software AG is on its way to become a global organization and therefore, it is expanding its services. However, besides expansion, the organization must also reduce carbon footprints and make energy savings to behave responsibly towards environment .
Question 3. To achieve targets of reducing energy consumption and carbon footprints, Grun Software AG directs its employees to use computer machines and other gadgets in a responsible way. When the machine is not is use then switch it off. Similarly, non-networked equipment or machines like printer, speakers, scanners, and other peripherals should be turned off until needed. The laptop and computer machines are set with power management so least energy is consumed.
The Grun Software AG purchases energy efficient machines and replace them as the latest technology offering less energy consumption is introduced. Inkjet printers are installed instead of laser printers, since they consume less energy. The Company is also managing friendly environment campaign and encouraging other companies to implement greenhouse friendly policies. It takes help from the Carbon Trust to guide in implementing the low carbon consumption culture at the organization.
Grun Software AG is taking actions to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. It is deploying and re-cabling down the vented floor tiles to cut down energy wastes. Programs and resources are stored all together in least number of servers so that other servers can be switched off. Dynamic cooling techniques are deployed. Similarly, other techniques are being used to reduce the CO2 emissions and carbon footprint, and energy consumption .
