Good Essay About Can You Multitask?
Multitasking
When completing try this out I found it relatively easy to understand and comprehend what I was reading in my textbook on pages141 and 142 because I was focusing on the text. I was able to understand that dreams and sleep effect how people function during the day and that body temperatures drop at night and rise in the morning. However when I finished try this out and tried to incorporate reading while listening to music I was not able to pay attention to the text no matter how many times I read it again. This helped me realize that I may not be proficient at multitasking effectively as I once thought I was. For instance I realized that distractions make it difficult to really gain an understanding of what you are doing even when you really try to complete both to the best of your ability. When driving I have done many distracting things like eat food and listen to loud music. After the try this out exercise I understand how that may affect my ability to drive safely and I would not even realize it. When I study there are many distractions as it is difficult to remove all of the obstacles that you face daily. I am often multitasking and cleaning or cooking as well as exercising. Although my studying was going well this exercise made me open my eyes to the possibility that I am missing a lot of the content when I multitask meaning I have the potential to learn faster and more proficiently if I am not distracted. When my attention is divided among multiple tasks it is more difficult for me to focus on one task completely. I think cooking and cleaning are easier to multitask however after doing this exercise I have become aware that if I am not focused I may not be doing them to the best of my abilities. Therefore although some things may be easier to do at the same time it is difficult to apply the best efforts possible when a person attempts to do more than one task simultaneously. This is because the ability to focus is interrupted when you distract yourself with too many things (Nevid, 2006).
