As a choreographer, my sole purpose is to bring out the best of the dancers through shaped and designed routines accompanied by a touch of customized creativity and guidance. However, to accomplish this monumental task, I require dancers with particular characteristics and inclinations.
A dancer must have rhythm (Minton 16). The dancer’s movements must match and flow with the beat; regardless of whichever kind of music is playing. He/she must react instinctively or compose his/her movements with the music at hand. The dancer must exude confidence and high self-esteem (33). Shyness or timidness is a crutch that impairs performance and delivery. The dancer should be able to perform their routines regardless of the environment, audience or reception. The dancer must see things through. Any learned or practiced movements should be completed; no cutting things short. The limbs should be extended as required by the routine, and so must the turns. The ability to capture and retain the audience’s attention is crucial (79). The stage presence should be loud. The movements, confidence, and energy exuded on stage should capture the audience fully and entertain them. The dancer’s movement must be fluid and dynamic. Switching between moves should be flawless; the transition should be seamless. The dynamics and flexibility ensure that the dancer can alter their performance to perform a variety of moves in an instant. That also implies quick improvisation (18). At times, errors might occur, and the dancer is forced to be quick on their feet. They must be smart enough to introduce a routine but allow for a graceful return. The dancer must also be enthusiastic and fit. Enthusiasm ensures passion and fire for dancing in front of an audience with all the flame and flair it deserves. Ultimately, the dancer must be capable of performing the routines without excessive strain. Stamina and flexibility ensure that any all routines will not be too difficult to perform, hence perfectly executed.
