Disability income insurance also referred to as income protection is an insurance form that insures the beneficiary some income against the risk that the impairment results in a barrier for the person to complete the required functions successfully. This policy is essential as it pays the disabled individuals some partial replacement income that was lost due to the injury and illness. This income protection insurance helps individuals meet expenses and maintain their living standards. Thus, the fees can help in paying bills such as tuition, car payments, mortgages as well as help in covering expenses for clothing, food and other utilities. By replacing an income portion, disability income insurance helps the individual with financial security until they get back on their feet for work again (Kostøl and Mogstad, P. 628).
