Paintings and musical pieces have been considered as the major tool of influence for many people and therefore great musical composers and painters have introduced new patterns of creativity and free will to inspire and express free will. The aim of this paper is to assess the viewpoints that are evident from creative pieces of painting and music by Franz Kline and Morton Feldman. In order to conduct such an assessment, it is necessary to closely observe the art pieces as well as the musical sequences. Furthermore, a discussion will also be carried out in the paper to highlight the elements of sensation and abstraction in both works.
It should be noted that the common aspect that has been observed in the creative pieces of both the individuals is the free will. The notes that are noted in the musical piece of Morton Feldman are expressive of the will that is not captive of traditional sequences. It can be made related to the viewpoint of Franz Kline who stated that while painting, he does not think of bridges or shapes. It is easier to note within the paintings of Franz Kline, audiences can surely notice abstraction. In other words, Kline is famous for abstract work. Some of the critics claim that his art work seems to be a direct focus about certain symbols such as expression of humanistic grounds and lifestyle of people. However, the commentary as made by Kline himself entails on the fact that his painting does not follow any pattern of focus. It is the challenging impact of the canvas on him that he comes up with abstract along with the meanings.
It is also evident in the work of Feldman as his musical pieces have a lot of difference when it comes to composition. The score and terms of his work have a lot to do with abstraction. Feldman has presented his commentary stating that the manner in which he composes his art piece is not different from that of a painter. He has marked or rendered his work greatly following the premise of Kline who stated that the painters are giving through their paintings. The audience would think that it is a matter of knowing. However, in real terms, it is the giving which is the major concepts in the work of painters. Giving is the purpose behind painters and the idea of knowing and painting is ultimately suspended.
Feldman has used the conventions in a manner that it suspends the traditional way of composition. It beholds the character of sensation because the composition rejects the aspect of thinking the music to be a piece connected to intellect. Knowing something is one way of looking at a subject but reliving it using expression is merely a concept of sensation.
Through the above assessment of the art piece and musical piece by the two artists namely, Franz Kline and Morton Feldman, it rather comes to understanding that abstraction is a form of expression that is not connected to the common conventions of art work. It is the way of giving to the audiences rather than knowing the subject in advance. It is a surprise that is left for the audiences to discover. Overall, it can be well-stated that the artists have been free to express their understanding of their environment that gives a meaningful way to look at art and creativity.
