In today’s society, less is discussed on how to improve the society's life fundamentally. Less energy is geared towards improving what already exist. The question of technology and engineering’s importance to the environment has often been “dismissed” (Rudas et al. 64). However, these two fields have aided in the improvement of ecosystem, minimization of pollution as well as enabling the radical use of resources. For this reason, this paper will focus on the importance of technology and engineering to the society in terms of environmental improvement.
(Bell 45) Argues the point of environmental sustainability as a factor prompted by technology itself, which catalyzes social change favorable to sustain the environment. Bell further argues that technology cannot restore or destroy the environment. However, the engineers who use technology in construction of environmentally friendly equipment is what raises the ethical importance of technology. Notably, engineering and technology approaches three methods to ensure ample environment; technological systems, actor-network theory and the use of social construction of technology. This explains the combination of modern technologies with radical ecosystem recovery as well as radical use of resources. Engineers are responsible for the design, maintenance, implementation and operation of technology, which is an additional advantage to society by addressing environmental concerns, as well as alleviation of poverty.
In support of this, (Oling & Plonka 579) argue that technology and engineering integrate various domains of the environment that result to balanced automation. Example of this include the use of technology in recycling of used materials such as plastic, use of technology to make life easier such as in the transport field as well as making communication better making it easy to organize and arrange personal lives (Bell 46).
Conclusion
Engineering and technology are aspects that are handcrafted by humans to make it better for the human beings. Technology can be modeled to suit favorable environmental needs, which in turn benefits the society either directly or indirectly, as discussed in the paper.
