Good Essay About Haze
Only rarely does it come to pass that a movie is both informative and heart-touching at the same time. Such are the feelings after watching the movie ‘Haze’. Not only does it bring home the need to control the dangerous aspect of college drinking and hazing by using statistics but it also uses a true story of a student named Gordie Bailey to invoke strong emotions inside the viewer. The viewer starts to question the existence of such ‘traditions’ or fraternities and their customs that sometimes lead to extremely untoward incidents.
The movie, in order to lend credibility to the substance, uses interviews with experts regarding the issue at hand. Several experts explicate on the issue of college drinking and the actions that are usually unknowingly taken by students while under the effects of intoxicants. The videos incorporated into the movie bring the narrations of the experts to life. While the interviews with the experts sounded a bit dragged at some points, the interview conducted by the family members of Gordie Brown was hard to look away from. It is truly heart-rending to hear of their pain at the unfortunate death of their family member.
One noticeable point about the movie was that almost no music was used as a background score. Perhaps, it was meant to underline the seriousness of the topic under discussion. The gravity of the issue is undeniable, and it hammers home the need for parents, teachers and college administration to ensure that such incidents are prevented before they cause undue misery to anyone.
