Good Essay About Heracles
Known as Hercules to many as well as Heracles to others, the legendary demigod was and remains a popular figure in mythology that has spawned countless other stories and depictions throughout the years. From books to movies to comic books, Heracles has become a household name by which standards are set and abnormal feats of effort are described as. The name Heracles, or Hercules, is synonymous with strength, courage, and a certain conventional style that still sets the legend apart from so many legendary heroes throughout the history of mankind.
Said to be the son of the storm god Zeus and a mortal woman Heracles was a virtual nobody until he came of age, escaping notice until his fabled tasks and exploits became so widely known. Some might think he is the typical ancient hero in that he performed daring feats of strength, rescued and protected the innocent, and even stood up to monsters that any normal man could not fathom defeating. But along with this side of the legend there were certain unconventional methods by which Heracles operated that were not as common.
Aside from his heroic deeds, it was written in several renditions of his story that Heracles was a vain, boastful lout, given more to acting as a mercenary than a hero. His exploits, be they real or simple fairy tale, were rarely witnessed by any, and as such were very hard to dispute. In short the man, the legend, was little more than a very strong man who tried to do the right thing, which is highly conventional for an ancient hero.
