Performance Appraisals
The purpose of performance appraisal systems are used to identify the better performing employees who are entitled to receive merit pay increases, bonuses, and promotions, as compared to the non-performing employees (Deepa, et al. 72). Under a performance management system, performance appraisals serve as the structured formal interaction between a subordinate and supervisor, which commonly takes the form of a periodic to examine and assess the work performance of the subordinate. The purpose is to identify the weakness and strengths, as well as opportunities for improvement and skills development (Deepa, et al. 72). It is important to conduct performance appraisals on a yearly basis to know the present performance of the employees on the basis of their job functions and how they can perform more efficiently in the future. The organizations will benefit from using performance management systems for various purposes in order to improve on their strategy, administrative functions, communication, documentation, and organizational maintenance or development (Aguinis 49). Performance appraisal examines how the employee is able to meet the qualifications of his or her job and to ensure that the process becomes satisfactory and resolves conflicts between and among superiors and their subordinates.
Creating a performance appraisal system in a company, firm or organization is essential in the sense that it facilitates communication, enhances the employees to become focused with their jobs, promote trust among the employees, performance reinforcement and goal setting, improves employee performance, and determines the training needs of employees (Deepa, et al. 73). Performance appraisals also promote job satisfaction to ensure that the employee is content with his or her job. Job satisfaction will determine whether the employees are find contentment in their present jobs.
