Dear Professor Smith,
I am writing to bring up a problem I have been facing with the graphic design course you teach, in which I am enrolled. While I have enjoyed the course and find I have learned much from it, the group project we were assigned is turning out to be much more difficult than I anticipated. We are trying to create a website for our project but I have run into many difficulties that make my completion of the assignment very difficult and I do not want my grade to plummet as a result. I am writing to address some of these issues with you and to see about any potential solutions.
The first problem I am facing is uncooperative group members. While much of the group has been on board, the successful completion of the projection all members do their part. However, what has happened is that one member of the group, Jane Williams, has consistently refused to attend group meetings or do the components of the project assigned to her. What has resulted is that me and other group members are now forced to do a disproportionate amount of work on top of our already difficult tasks. Since the grade is given to the group as a whole, I am wondering if it would be possible for this to be addressed and their grade to adjusted accordingly and the overall nature of our project to maybe be scaled down to not include the work of our absent fourth group member.
Another issue the project is facing is those willing to do work are unreliable in completing tasks in a timely manner and are unwilling to meet outside class hours to work on the project. I have tried to personally talk to each group member and offer flexible solutions that would let us meet as a group, but they have thus far been non-responsive. I am doing everything I can do to get people to work on this project in a cooperative manner with me, but have been unsuccessful and worry what this will do to my grade.
I would like to come in and talk to you in person about this so that we can brainstorm potential solutions. I can bring in the work I have done so far, the e-mails I have sent and the responses I have received from my group members. I can also demonstrate for you one member has been completely unresponsive and the others have been reluctant participants. I know that your schedule is very busy, but I am wondering if you have an open time-slot during your office hours this Thursday at 11 A.M. when I could come in and discuss this further. I would very much appreciate it.
Sincerely,
