Abstract

The definition of luxury in the fashion industry can be somewhat intricate, but interesting for the same time. Most of people associate luxury with a definite lifestyle, social status, buying habits and purchasing power. This paper examines the word luxury in terms of description, marketing point of view, jewelry world historical background and perception. Besides, the perception of the consumers from low, medium and high classes is analyzed from the luxury point of view and the way they define luxury. In order to understand why luxury goods are so demanded, the advantages and disadvantages of luxury products, counterfeiting, ancestral heritage and personal history, aesthetics and consumerism were analyzed using the extensive research that was conducted for this paper. Based on the gained information, the jewelry world was discussed in terms of its appeal to men and women, consumers’ perception, sales process and challenges in the luxury jewelry world, as well as in the luxury products as a whole.

Self-evaluation

After completing such a challenging paper work, but at the same very interesting, I feel very proud and happy for myself. The feeling of being proud comes from the hard work that was conducted using the extensive research and patience, from the time spent for writing this paper and evaluating the resources, from the dedication that devoted for this project and of course from the determination and the achievement of my final goal of completing this paper. For the first time in my life, I wrote a paper that is more than twenty pages long. It was quite a challenging process of writing that required time, patience and maturity, but, it was the most interesting paper I wrote both in high school and in college.
Based on the experience that came to me from writing this paper, I understood that it is very important to do what you love or to do what is interesting for you to do. There is a famous quote that says that if a person loves his/her job, he/she never actually works for a single day. The topic of luxury items have interested me since I was little. I have a passion and a great interest in luxury products. Not only I always wanted to own them, but I also was very interested on the factors that make people consume and buy luxury products. I had many of these thoughts when I was a teenager of around fourteen or fifteen years old. For my fifteen-year-old birthday, I saved up for a couple of months and purchased my first designer bag. Yes, I did save my own money earned while babysitting neighbors’ children, my pocket money and my parents money at some point, the process of saving money took patience and time. However, when I purchased the bag, I was feeling so proud and at some point, so unique that I am the owner of the statement bag and the owner of the brand that is desired by many others. I am still wearing that bag even nowadays when couple of years have already passed.
When I got a chance to write about luxury in terms of positive and negative impact, economic impact, jewelry market, strategic challenges, different levels of customers and consumerism, I was extremely happy, but at the same time responsible and did my best to conduct a proper research, to work on my English grammar and to improve my writing skills. It was not easy, because a lot of information was needed to be reviewed and analyzed, but because of the interesting topic since childhood, I did not notice any grudge or irritation towards the topic. Thanks to the research conducted for this paper, I understood that from now, I would not choose a future profession that is not interesting to me, even if this profession offers a high salary.
It was a great experience writing this paper. I found out many new things in terms of luxury fashion, found out about myself from different points of view, hopefully, improved my writing skills, found out many new things from historical and psychological points of view, as well as analyzed the pros and cos of luxury brands. It was the most challenging, yet, the most fruitful paper that I have ever worked in my life.
Thanks to this paper, I found out about new interesting libraries in my city, met interesting people in the libraries and developed many good qualities in myself such as patience and hard work.
There is a saying that the most difficult and challenging thing for a human being is to analyze himself. Thanks to this paper, I was able to analyze about myself, and I came to the conclusion regarding myself that if I have a passion, a desire, and a great interest for what I am doing, then, no obstacles and difficulties will stop me. I hope that in my future academic life I will have a plenty of challenging but interesting papers like this one that open the mind and allow to know something new.
