Márquez, Gabriel García. The Woman Who Came at Six. 1950. Print. (Narativ)
Gabriel GarcíaMárquez is a Columbian renowned journalist and author. Some of his popular works include The Love of Demons, strange pilgrims of twelve stories, and news of kidnapping and much acclaimed hundred years of solitude (Kukathas, n.p). His journalistic background and affection to fictitious stories has created sensational narratives like the woman who came at six. Gabriel’s narrative was an endeavour to capture the hidden realities of life that are hidden from the public and law enforcers. The author carefully develops a story of a woman who has captured the affection of trustworthy man. She makes him lie for that she may be acquitted of murder that she supposedly committed.
Summery
In 1950 when Gabriel GarcíaMárquez wrote the woman who came at six, she was already a reputed journalist. Her journalism work had much influence on her work. The woman who came at six is a juxtaposition of fiction and journalism. This narrative is the story behind justice that excludes fairness and unrealistic verdicts like justification of murder. Gabriel’s thematic concerns revolve around justice, power of person’s reputation and unique realities people go through. Although critics has pointed out that the woman who came at six was inspired by other works like “The killers” by Hemingway, it has by itself inspired other books.
García who born and raised in Columbia in a time when political tensions were high has done much for Columbian life by illuminating it with the journalism and fictional narratives as told in this story. The realities in people’s lives is contradicted with what they seem to be in an attempt create two distinct worlds: an deceptive world that is visible to everyone where people wear different identities and a real world shared by no one which is guarded by “taking back the time” (lying), secret affection and manipulation.
Unlike many stories where the author uses exposition as a narrative hook, where he chooses to unfold information and give it to their readers when they need it so as to retain dramatic tension. However the writer is straight forward, thus readers get a clue from the very beginning. Justification of murder that no one knows if was committed is however substantially sufficient to capture the theme of affection. In a number of the author’s books, there is no in debt scope and the woman who at six is one of such
Pablo Neruda: Infinite (Poem)

Infinite was originally written in Spanish in and translated to English. The poem is an exceptional description of one’s affection. Painting is one art that can be related to this poem as it seems in a plain eye that Neruda didn’t have the readers in mind. While critic may term this has self centeredness, it has had much success than failure by allowing the reader to translate the poem in his own terms. Because this work was originally not written in English, styles such as alliterations and rhymes may be a coincidence of translation.
Infinite Thematic Concerns
Notably, the entire work is an affection poem that expresses the fear of losing someone who is passionately adored. “They have measure the earth” is an expression of lengths the author has gone is pursuit of treasure. No matter how dirty his hands they could be, they still embrace and protect.
This piece of work is exceptionally descriptive and has unique capabilities of keeping the reader throughout the reading. Language here used is friendly and full of passionate expressions that transits with rider’s advancement.
Conclusion
Pablo’s poems have had almost the same them of affection which he displays as affection and commitment to relationship. His approach do not favour all readers especially those who do not have relationships at centre of their minds. One might want even read one poem and predict the themes of any other piece by Neruda Pablo.
Despite much acclaim, the narrative “the woman who came at six” has done much for the audience by alluding from the killers by Hemingway. It has no verdict and thus looses the importance of being generous with unfolding events in the story when it fails to mention whether there was a killing or not. The narrative is entirely about someone’s reputation and how it can make people believe their deception by a virtue of being a reputed journalist, Gabriel rides in journalism fame in authorship path same to Neruda Pablo. Being famous with political connections Pablo’s work may have been exalted beyond its standard.
Pablo wrote on topics that matter to him and to the society. Being too outspoken especially in political matters landed him in controversies. Pablo can therefore be considered honest and outspoken and used poetry in some way to communicate his mind. Gabriel GarcíaMárquez on the other hand is mindful of audience. Effects of journalism is however evident throughout her narrative. Despite such differences the two pieces have a lot more in common both in style and contents.
