Good Essay About Martin Luther On The Definition Of The Church
Martin Luther attempts to redefine the concept of the true Christian church after he was excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church. Luther opines that the association of Christian to institutional affiliations did not define the true Christians and the church. He contended that the pope, the Chrism and all the material possession which the Roman Catholic tended to venerate were of no importance in the actual definition of the church. Luther proposes that the true Christian church is based upon preaching the word of God. For where the word is preached, there is faith, where there is faith, there is the true church. This stand on the definition is true since the essence of Christian church is not tied to the hereditary institution with the strict rules on rituals. Jesus as Luther notes liberated the people from the strict laws and allowed them to read the word among themselves. The fundamental foundation of Christianity is not in the denomination but in the faith in God the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
Everything in the Christian faith is consecrated by God through the word of God and prayer. For this reason, therefore, Luther finds it right to defines the true church of Christian as the one that preaches the word of God. It is evident that one can only proclaim what they belief. There is no way one can tell a true Christian without the Christian proclaiming the fundamental aspects of the Christian faith. This involves preaching and partaking of the baptism, the Eucharist, among others sacraments. Those who do not profess the word of God before people shall be denied by Jesus in the judgment day before the father and the angels. It is thus logical to claim that the true Christian must profess his or her faith. However, a question arises as to whether proclamation alone is enough. Luther tends to ignore that it is possible for some people to profess what they do not practice. Therefore, one must act in such a manner as he or she professes to be counted among the true believers of God. Do you think the church as it is today is defined by what Luther claimed?
