Good Essay About Nursing
Death of a family member in a family leads to the change and reversal of roles among the remaining members. In most situations, there is complete reversal and change of roles is especially when a parent dies. In a situation like this, the oldest boy who is 16,will have to assume the roles of the father and the 14-year-old girl assume those of the mother. However, the 16-year-old boy may sometimes be forced to act as both the father and the mother (Comerford, 2007). The 10-year-old girl is supposed to start performing the duties as if she was above 15. She will not be considered young again. The eight old month baby is cared for by its siblings. The old children have completely reversed their roles, structures and functions, and now they must take care of the younger baby (Taylor, Lillis & Lynn, 2014).
With the hospitalization of their mother, the 8-month baby will learn to cope without the mother’s breast milk. Also, the child will miss the maternal care and attention for a while. On the case with the 10-year-old child, she may be forced to assume the roles that would have been otherwise assumed the 14-year-old and the 16-year-old boy. Each of the children has been forced to work in the roles that are above their capacity. For instance, the 16-year-old boy and the 14-year-old girl have been obliged to assume the roles and functions of their parents Taylor, Lillis & Lynn, 2014).
There are several health risk factors for each member of the family. The 16-year-old boy is subject to psychological torture. It is because he has to think how the family will eat and other paternal functions. He is also subject to mental torture. He is also prone to suffer from heart complications due to too much stress. The stress is due to too much pressure from taking care of the family. For the 14-year-old girl, she is also subject to psychological and mental torture. These are due to the pressure of her assuming the roles of her mother (Comerford, 2007). She is also subject to stress-related conditions. For the 10-year-old girl, she may develop complications due to being overworked. This is because she of her assumption of the roles of her elder siblings. It may even affect her performance at school. For the 8-month-old baby, she is subject to suffer from malnutrition. It is because her caregivers do not understand parenthood. The child also lacks breast milk that contains nutrients required for a young kid. The hospitalization of the mother and the death of their father have very adverse health risks for the family (Taylor, Lillis & Lynn, 2014).
