Good Essay About Socrates: So, In Your Opinion, Rene, The Perfect Being Is God?

Descartes: Hello, Socrates. I am so glad to finally see you. I heard that you are the most intelligent philosopher of Ancient Greece. Can you tell me how to become a philosopher as good as you are?
Socrates: Oh, Rene, honestly, I am just an old man with a truth-seeking heart. However, you can tell me the way you define a good philosopher and maybe I will give you a piece of advice.
Descartes: Sure, Socrates. I think a good philosopher is always engaged in asking, answering, and arguing about the answers to life’s basic questions. For example, existence of God?
Socrates: In order to answer your question, we should go step by step. Now, can you tell me, do you believe in God, Rene?
Descartes: It’s a pleasure to answer this question and share my opinion with you, Socrates. Actually, I do believe in God’s existence. Since thought clearly and distinctly perceives to be a part of an idea. According to the Law of the Universe, nothing can come from nothing. This means that existence is part of God. To continue with, I had an idea about a perfect being. Perfect means it lacks nothing. Existence is a perfection, therefore a perfect being exists – that can be only God.

Descartes: Absolutely right, Socrates. Almighty God is perfection.
Socrates: Since God is perfection, it is impossible that God could ever have malice, because malice is weakness, right? So God is representing all good and beautiful, but can you tell me why evil exists in our world if God is perfection?
Descartes: First of all, I believe God and the human being are on the “scala naturae”. It has two sides, one of the sides is the goodness and the beauty, and they represent Almighty God. The other side is the opposite of God. The human being is in the middle and it cannot be as good as God. On the other hand, human being does not always make mistakes since we are also making right decisions. The right decision we make is truth. I think that knowledge is anything that is based on the truth.
Socrates: I am sorry, but I disagree with you, Rene. I think that knowledge comes from learning and recollection. Our humans have souls inside their bodies. When the body dies, the soul finds another body to be reborn in. The soul never dies and never stops. If a person is guilty in something, the soul gets the punishment after the death. The soul gets its punishment in hell, after lots of years later, the guilty soul might be released. It will find a new body to reborn in. Since the soul never dies, and it can be reborn unlimited times, the soul meets and experiences many different things in the world and in hell, so the soul knows and sees everything. It makes sense for the soul to recollect knowledge. People call this learning. Therefore, everything about learning is recollection, and knowledge is from learning and recollection.

Descartes: Your opinion seems quite reasonable to me, but how can you experience the existence of God?

Socrates: Well, Rene, since your opinion is based on the existence of God, I want you to answer my question. Can God creative a heavy stone which he himself will not be able to move?
Descartes: Absolutely, Socrates. Almighty God can make anything: Humans, trees, everything.
Socrates: Since God made a heavy stone and he himself cannot move it, does it mean that God has the weakness? Does it mean that God is not perfect?
