Understanding the importance of a sufficient level of competency in regard to managing workplace diversity is an important trait to have in my future management positions. In a complex global economy, empathy and equality are required to guide a group of people successfully. The current workforce is a melting pot full of various backgrounds and lifestyle. I realize from my experiences of working in groups, in my educational, professional, and personal life, that my capability to open up to a multitude of personalities and circumstances allows for smoother interactions in achieving a goals. With concepts discovered during discussions with peers of Units 1-4, as well as the research done for the Competency Project, I have gained increased awareness on the importance of handling diversity.
The knowledge gained is guaranteed to help me in advancement in my management career. Entering a managerial position with consideration for the importance of equality in the workplace, I will be at an advantage in efficiently executing delegation of tasks with the groups I manage. By delivering empowerment to the co-workers, productivity and satisfaction will increase in the groups I lead. These simple, competent methods will allow my management skills to be a superior asset to the company. The potential for promotion and growth in an organization is a strong possibility if I am able to enter the business and benefit the performance of my peers. Any company that can increase productivity as a result of excellence in overall operation as a direct result of the leadership is going to value the individual responsible. In conclusion, expertise in managing a diverse workplace is beneficial for all parts of an organization from executives down to the entry level employees. The skills gained in understanding workplace diversity will go a long way in the success of my career goals.
